Version 0.13.1 Latest

New

Cutscenes for Hal Meren’s trials

Arcanists who take Fire Against Fire or Load and Limit from Applied Arcanist Hal Meren in Cinderwake Hollow now see each briefing and each report play out as a fully voiced cutscene. Each scene plays once on its own, and you can rewatch it from the quest page. Press Space to pause or Esc to skip.

Improved

A home in the trees

Follow the spiral stairs at the western home in Fallbed Gardens to find a furnished loft overlooking Rootwake Glade.

Changed

A new address: play.vowsofwar.com

The game now lives at play.vowsofwar.com, and old play.dorenvar.com links take you there. Sign in once on the new address; your characters, Embers and progress are all there. Settings saved on your device start fresh. If you added the game to your Home Screen, add it again from the new address.

New support address

Support is now support@vowsofwar.com. Mail to the old address still reaches us. Purchases now show Vows of War at checkout and on card statements, and the Terms of Sale, Refund Policy and Privacy Policy name Vows of War as the business. Nothing in them changed otherwise.

Version 0.13.0

New

The Hookline Cradle's catch net

The Hookline Cradle has a crescent catch frame under the Hookline's last bend, with a rope net you can land in. Walk out along the drop board beside the Cradle's arrival walk and step off the end into the net. A stair climbs back up to the walk.

Improved

The Galehook Rookeries talk like people

Every quest in the Vantik starting zone has been rewritten. The routekeeper, the rigging lead, the windreader and the rest now explain what they want in plain words, and the working terms of the cliff get explained the first time somebody uses one.

  • Quest offers and turn-ins are a good deal longer, so the people giving them have room to be themselves.
  • The errands around the market, the shelf and the frame deck are no longer handed out by nobody in particular: each has the person who actually wants it done.
  • Nothing changed about what any quest asks you to do, where it sends you, or what it pays.

Clearer Greenreach roadside work sites

Avel’s stone brace carries a visible test load, his practice trough shows shallow running water, and the Ridge Camp crew works behind a marked chalk line.

Readable Greenreach wayposts

Read destination names directly on the East Road and Road Watch wayposts. Inspect each sign for the full directions.

A new look for Hal Meren

When you meet Hal Meren at the Cinderwake service board or in the Emberyard, you’ll see his silver hair and gold-embroidered indigo robes.

Hal Meren’s voiced dialogue

When you meet Applied Arcanist Hal Meren in Cinderwake Hollow, you can hear his new greeting, quest dialogue, and remarks around the workshop.

A market street in Homehook

Homehook's landing has a market street. Stalls under teal, cream and gold canopies line the road from the route board to the terrace stair, selling fruit, cloth, pottery, rope, fish, bread, spices, lanterns and flowers, with bunting strung across the lane.

Maximum frame rate and raw mouse input

Graphics settings now have a maximum frame rate: 30, 60, 90 or 120, or Match display. A lower maximum saves battery and heat, and on older computers a steady 30 can feel smoother. Raw mouse input in Controls & comfort skips your system's mouse acceleration in Chrome and Edge. Laptops with two graphics chips now ask the browser for the faster one.

Quest talks in the newer starting zones

Quests in Galehook Rookeries and the other newer starting zones now flow like Greenreach's. When a quest needs you to talk to someone, that talk is its own choice when you speak to them, and accepting a quest that opens with a talk goes straight into it.

  • A question mark shows over anyone a quest needs you to speak with or hand something to, and objects a quest needs you to use now sparkle.
  • A talk with a single answer no longer offers to continue without answering.
  • Turning in these quests now shows the quest-complete message and plays its sound, and the reward screen ends with Continue.
  • Abandoning a zone's first quest keeps your arrival, so the zone's other quests stay available.

Changed

Dorenvar is now Vows of War

The game has a new name: Vows of War. Dorenvar is still the world you play in, and your characters, Embers and progress are unchanged. You'll see the new logo, a new title screen and new app icons. If you added the game to your Home Screen, remove the old icon and add it again to get the new one. The game's website is now vowsofwar.com.

Fixed

Smoother return after game updates

If Dorenvar is still coming back online after an update, the game briefly waits and retries so you can return to character select with your existing sign-in.

Safari voice playback

Fixed an issue that could make NPC voices and other streamed audio silent in Safari.

Version 0.12.0

Improved

Galehook Rookeries on its sea cliff

Galehook Rookeries now stands on a sheer cream sea cliff over open sea, with surf, sea stacks and mist. Homes and banners climb the cliff above Homehook and Latchwind, Latchwind Perch flies a crown of streamer masts, and the Threehook Span is a suspension bridge. Hubs have their own gear and seating, stairs are cut into the rock, and rails are open timber and rope.

A clearer aiming reticle

The aiming cursor and fixed crosshair are easier to see against bright ground, dark terrain, and combat effects.

Clearer logout feedback

Logging out shows that your progress is saving, then returns you to character select as soon as the save is confirmed.

Ask Mira about A Better Condenser

Mira explains the discovery in conversation. She offers a way into the expedition controls when you can start, join, or resume the work.

Find your quest keepsakes

Quest keepsake rewards now explain that they use no bag space and link straight to the collection on your character sheet.

Clearer quest turn-ins

When you turn in a quest, the NPC’s response appears first, followed by your completed objectives and rewards.

Start typing feedback sooner

The feedback form opens while your screenshot is prepared. The attachment still includes your game, HUD, and open windows.

Tamsin takes cover

Tamsin steps away and ducks when raiders ambush you on the way to Ashroot Gate. She follows again once the danger has passed.

Changed

Defend Cinderwake Hollow

Dominion residents can opt in to defend Cinderwake Hollow from level 10. Enemy visitors level 10 and up are flagged outside marked protected areas.

  • Players below level 10 remain protected. Marked protected areas and shrines stay safe for both factions.
  • The Freightward Watch and Margin Road Watch warn enemy visitors before striking.
  • PvP defeat costs no XP, gold or items. Release your spirit at the nearest protected local shrine, then return to your body or choose recovery at faction staging.
  • Nearby fieldwork prompts appear when your character enters the world.

Defend Greenreach

From level 10, you can choose to defend Greenreach by enabling PvP. Enemy visitors are flagged outside protected areas, while unflagged residents remain safe.

  • Players below level 10 remain protected. Marked protected areas and shrines stay safe for both factions.
  • The Ashroot Gate Watch warns enemy visitors before striking.
  • PvP defeat costs no XP, gold or items. Release your spirit at the nearest protected local shrine, then return to your body or choose recovery at faction staging.
  • Consensual practice duels remain nonlethal.

Fixed

Clearer escort directions and nearby loot

The minimap points to your destination after you pick up a player-led escort and guides you back when the quest is ready. If a nearby conversation gets the main interaction prompt, you can still loot with Z or a separate Loot button on touch.

Clearer game update status

Update prompts stay hidden when you already have the latest game version. Settings offers installation once the latest update is ready.

Training and bank feedback

Training windows now show the result of your request while you keep browsing. Banks also explain when they serve the other faction.

Find your starter guide

Quest markers guide you to the opening conversation in Galehook, Ashen Coast, and Rootwake.

Version 0.11.0

Improved

Quick casting and a lighter mobile HUD

Tap a skill to aim toward a nearby enemy, or hold and drag to choose your aim before releasing. Drag to the × to cancel. A smaller HUD leaves more of the world visible, with quest icons you can expand for details and separate portrait and landscape control layouts you can adjust in Settings.

  • Jump now sits above your main attack on the right, so you can keep moving while jumping.
  • Abilities curve around your main attack. Tap the set switch to reach more skills; hold it to choose directly when you have three or more sets.
  • The minimap stays visible on phones. Tap to enlarge or collapse it, or double-tap to open World Map.

Touch movement follows your thumb

Start moving anywhere in the lower-left movement area. The joystick follows your thumb as you slide, giving you more room to move while you look around or use abilities.

A more natural conversation with Rowan

The opening Greenreach conversation moves on shortly after each spoken line finishes. If voice is off or unavailable, you still have time to read the subtitles.

A clearer Controls guide

Find movement, combat, interaction, window shortcuts and your class abilities in separate sections of the Controls reference. The guide shows your current controls, keeps help and settings within reach, and uses a category picker on smaller screens. Controls & comfort also groups movement and camera options separately from combat assistance.

  • With desktop target lock enabled, the primary attack slot shows F. Left-click selects a target; hold F to attack.

Quest actions stay within reach

Quest details now scroll beneath the character's portrait and name, while Back and Accept or Complete stay at the bottom. A visible scrollbar and reading hint show when more details are below.

  • Touch layouts keep the action buttons easy to reach in portrait and landscape.
  • The menu now says Log out to character select so you know where it will take you.

A proper field issue from Rowan

Rowan’s rack now clearly displays coats, weapons and supplies. You visibly take your field issue and put the coat away, ready to equip it from Bags.

A heads-up before world restarts

You'll receive a one-minute heads-up before the world briefly restarts, with a final reminder to finish combat and avoid starting another encounter.

Fixed

Finish interrupted game updates

If an update finishes installing after your tab stops waiting, App & downloads offers Reload to finish update. You can also finish the update when you enter the world.

Version 0.10.0

New

World PvP at Whitewake

Face the opposing faction in Whitewake Signal Field, a contested area for levels 15–20. Fight for the signal post during evening events, earn modest daily rewards, and recover safely at faction staging if you fall.

  • Crossing into the contested field enables lethal PvP. Your injuries carry back into the world. Defeat does not cost XP, gold or items.
  • Signal-post events begin at 6 PM and 9 PM Central. Both factions can earn participation rewards through presence, fighting and useful support.
  • Consensual practice duels remain available without risking your life.

Dungeon notices on the road

Find posted invitations in towns and near dungeon approaches. Once you are near the entry level, inspect a notice for the meeting place, directions and recommended group preparation. Reading a notice leaves your quest choices to you.

Improved

Quieter mouse-look guidance

Mouse-look help now sits beside your messages and stays hidden while you use menus or other windows. After you capture the mouse twice, it becomes a small help button. Hover over it or press H for Controls.

Livelier quest conversations

Some NPCs now act out the actions described in their quest dialogue. On touch, tap Watch to hide the text and look around, then Read to return to your place.

Changed

Starter abilities on level up

You automatically learn your class abilities through level 5 as you level up. Existing characters also gain any missing early abilities. Later lessons still require a class trainer.

Take the plunge in Tideglass

You can jump over Tideglass bridge parapets and swim through its canals and lagoon. Find a sloping bank or water stair to climb out, and return to shore before deepwater fatigue sets in. Bridge walls now have solid sides and caps.

Fixed

Clearer combat and recovery

Enemy health now waits for confirmed damage instead of briefly jumping back up. Your player frame shows combat and rest status, and eating or drinking keeps its useful explanation when it cannot start.

  • Nearby fights outside your party no longer keep you in combat.
  • When a creature is targeting you, its name appears with the combat indicator.

Clearer app settings feedback

Update checks, downloads, installation and notification messages now appear with their related controls. Game updates also handle large downloads more reliably.

Clearer quest map markers

After clearing the Ashroot hayfields, Serin now shows a return marker. Hunting objectives use dashed rings so you can tell an area to search from an exact quest target.

Jump onto reachable props

You can jump onto the Bellshoal repair platform and shared tables, benches and crates, stand on their tops, and jump or walk back down.

Improved

Clearer quest conversations

NPC conversations now separate spoken words from actions, making both easier to follow. Several Tideglass notices and readings also explain their meaning more clearly.

Compact desktop shortcuts

Your desktop game-window shortcuts now sit in a compact vertical icon rail, with hotkey labels and hover details. A backpack end slot on your main action bar opens Bags with B or I. Notice badges and the travel cooldown stay available, with a reveal button for notices outside a scrolled rail. Mobile keeps its existing menu and touch shortcuts.

Feedback screenshots

Your feedback screenshots now include the HUD and open windows. Press F8 from an open window to report what you are looking at.

A clearer start and closer maps

Your first level-up adds an optional quest to meet your class trainer. Maps open near you, with named public places in Tideglass, and window hotkeys work from focused buttons.

Clearer guidance in Tideglass

Tideglass conversations, quest instructions, signs and observation posts explain the Watch’s tools and crossing precautions more clearly.

More names on your map

Your close map now labels more towns, districts, named areas and cave entrances. Labels respect your current floor and make room for nearby markers.

Clearer greetings on your travels

Pia explains the people and tide notices at Blue Ledger House more clearly. Three more people in Briarwood greet you with voiced dialogue.

More spoken greetings

You can hear Pia and the Ashen Crucible freight agent greet you when you talk to them.

A more natural Tideglass shore

Crabs and their crawling cousins have a clearer walking motion. Tideglass driftwood has more natural roots, and a ferry landing no longer flickers against the court paving.

Tutorial choices for new adventurers

Tutorial play, resume and restart options now disappear once your character reaches level 5. Older practice progress no longer sends experienced characters back into the tutorial. Your character and control preferences stay unchanged.

Fixed

Lowhearth care scenes

You can see all four Lowhearth companions keeping their places while tending their patient.

Quest reward previews

Quest reward previews show the items and quantities you receive when you turn in your work.

Sure Exit quest work

If you know Sure Exit, hits during Clean Exit now let you keep gathering or doing other quest work. A later unprotected hit still stops your work.

Clearer directions to class trainers

Training reminders, Abilities, and ability tooltips now name your trainer's actual workplace or settlement, making it easier to find your next lesson.

Safe dueling

Challenge another player at Whitewake Practice Green, whether they belong to your faction or the other side. Fight with your own abilities and equipment in a consensual, nonlethal bout.

  • Accept the invitation, wait for the countdown, and practice without losing your ordinary health or resources.
  • Yield at any time, request a rematch, or turn off duel invitations in your duel settings.
  • Duels award no experience, currency, loot, or faction credit. Both factions can reach the practice green through their capital travel service.

Tideglass rebuilt

Tideglass has a new town on the estuary with walkable shores, and its quests have been rewritten from the ground up with more fights, more discoveries and more personality.

Auto-run

Press the backtick key to keep running forward. You can rebind it under Settings, Controls & comfort. Bags, the map, chat and other windows stay usable while you run.

Loading paintings and tips

Every region now has its own painting when you enter the world, and the loading screen rotates through 235 tips that fit your class, region and device. A few dad jokes slipped in.

Improved

Conversations move to the left

NPC conversations now open on the left side of the screen, in a slimmer panel at eye level and clear of the character you are talking to. Service buttons stack in even rows with room for long names.

Player and target portraits

You can see your character and your current target beside their health bars, with portraits that reflect your appearance, equipment and Shifter form.

NPC portraits and name bars

See who you're talking to with a portrait and name bar in NPC conversations and quest windows. Their name and the close button stay visible while you scroll.

A quieter minimap

New characters now see quest markers, objectives, party members, other players, gathering nodes and dungeon markers on the minimap. Creatures, vendors, trainers, bankers and your bound home stay hidden until you switch them on in the Legend.

  • Quest markers now stay on the quest giver as you walk up, instead of circling your arrow.
  • The minimap now shows sea water.

Fewer clicks to finish a quest

When all that is left of a quest is a closing word, the quest now reads Ready to turn in. One click plays the last lines and opens your reward.

Count your bars to the next level

Your larger XP bar now has 20 segments, each worth 5% of a level. Your money is shown in your bags with gold, silver and copper coin icons, leaving the player frame clear below the XP bar.

More voices in the starting lands

  • Use Hear greeting where it appears, or reopen a conversation to hear the resident’s greeting again.

  • The Dominion gets pools of its own to fish in the world.

Improved

Name your character, your way

Every new character now needs a name, and the field tells you right away if a name is taken. Random names now draw from about 9,200 options that fit each race.
